A fatal accident occurred at Milan Bergamo Airport on Wednesday morning, prompting the immediate suspension of all flight operations.
According to airport operator SACBO, the incident took place at 10:20am local time on the airport’s taxiway. While official details remain limited, reports suggest that an individual was fatally injured after being sucked into an aircraft engine.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. SACBO released a brief statement confirming the suspension of operations and said that the “causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities.”
Following the incident, flights bound for Milan Bergamo were diverted to Milan Malpensa Airport, another major hub serving northern Italy.
Bergamo Airport is among the busiest in the country, serving millions of travelers annually, many of whom use it as a gateway to Milan.
