CEO of Filipino-owned accounting firm in Qatar pioneers financial excellence and community service

At 43 years old, Jyerex Go Abrasado, CPA, has built a formidable career that spans continents, industries, and roles. Currently the CEO of Business Partners Consulting LLC, the first Filipino-owned accounting firm in Qatar, Jyerex’s journey reflects his dedication, thoughtful career choices, and an unwavering commitment to community service.

“My mantra in life is to be a history-maker and legacy-builder,” he shares with The Global Filipino Magazine, encapsulating his drive to create lasting impacts both professionally and personally.

After passing the CPA board exam in May 2003, Jyerex’s career took off with a job offer from Bin Harmal Group in Al Ain, UAE, as a Group Accountant. His role encompassed managing the finances of 33 companies across various industries, including construction, car dealership, and tourism. In December 2003, he was assigned to Qatar to set up the accounting department for a construction joint venture, a task that was supposed to last only two months but extended until June 2006 due to his exceptional performance.

Abrasado then moved to KPMG-Qatar as a Senior Audit Executive, where he became the firm’s first Filipino hired External Auditor. His tenure at KPMG lasted until June 2008, after which he joined Qatar Shell. Over 11 years at Shell, he held various positions, including Project Accounting Analyst and Financial Accountant, playing a crucial role in the construction and asset management of a US$19 billion Gas-To-Liquid (GTL) plant.

“Being part of the pioneering team at Shell was a highlight of my career,” he reflects.

Entrepreneurial ventures and leadership roles

The COVID-19 pandemic, while disruptive, became a catalyst for Jyerex’s entrepreneurial spirit. In June 2021, he founded Business Partners Consulting LLC in Qatar Financial Centre, marking a significant milestone as the first Filipino accounting firm in the country. The firm offers comprehensive services in accounting, tax, business consulting, IT, and HR. Additionally, he serves as the CFO of NSA Tech LLC, an artificial intelligence startup.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Jyerex has significantly contributed to the Filipino community in Qatar and beyond. He is a founding member of several organizations, including the Philippine Business Council and the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in Qatar. He also plays pivotal roles in numerous social and professional groups, such as the Overseas Filipino Investment and Entrepreneur Movement (OFIEM) and the Toastmasters Club of PICPA.

One of his notable contributions is as the Chairman of the NGO Wisdom Seed Schooling Program, which provides scholarships to underprivileged children in Mindanao. Although currently on hold, this initiative underscores his commitment to education and community development.

“Education and community support are close to my heart. Through these programs, we can make a real difference in people’s lives,” he says.

Passion for his work

Abrasado’s passion for his work is evident.

“The most satisfying aspect of my job is building credibility and integrity in the market as the first Filipino accounting firm in Qatar. It’s a proud moment to raise the Philippine flag in the business sector here,” he shares.

His dedication to his field is matched by his enjoyment of Qatar’s tax-free environment and recognition as one of the safest countries globally.

Like many expatriates, Jyerex has faced challenges, particularly the longing for home and the absence of family celebrations. However, he has found solace in the diverse community in Qatar, where he met his wife and forged deep connections.

“I miss the food and celebrations with friends back home, but I’ve built a family here,” he notes.

Looking ahead, Jyerex plans to return to the Philippines to develop his 10-hectare farm, combining his passion for agriculture with community education through the Jyerex Learning Site.

“My future plans involve imparting knowledge gained overseas through teaching and continuing socio-civic works,” he envisions.

Advice for fellow Filipinos abroad

Abrasado’s advice for fellow Filipinos struggling abroad is rooted in his own experiences.

“Find love in the country you’re in, save for your retirement through property investments, and continuously upgrade your skills. Most importantly, make your own house your permanent address,” he advises.

He also emphasizes the importance of attending financial literacy lectures and professional development workshops to advance one’s career.

Traveling has given Jyerex a broader perspective on life, shaping his outlook as a global citizen.

“Visiting Europe and the US has inspired me to maintain a quality outlook in life and be a good resident or member of any community I belong to,” he concludes.
