A teacher in Cebu is currently under investigation after a video surfaced showing him pulling and kicking a 14-year-old Grade 8 student in front of classmates. The incident, reported by GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak’s Alan Domingo on “Saksi,” has sparked concerns among the community.
The teacher, who has been in the profession for 24 years without prior incidents, and the student involved have requested anonymity. The school principal of Don Sergio Osmeña Memorial National High School, Dr. Cindy Perigo, emphasized that this was an isolated occurrence and that they have taken swift action following the incident.
A dialogue was held on Friday involving the teacher, the student’s parents, the DepEd lawyer, school principal, and guidance counselor. The teacher reportedly admitted to being overwhelmed by emotions and sincerely apologized for his actions, acknowledging the violation of DepEd policies aimed at safeguarding students’ welfare.
DepEd officials reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of student maltreatment, including physical, mental, psychological, or emotional abuse.
