Cebu Pacific, in a new alliance with the United Filipino Global (UFG) NGO, has announced its commitment to provide free flights for overseas Filipino worker (OFW) beneficiaries. Additionally, through this partnership, the airline will recommend scholarship opportunities for the children of these OFWs.
The collaboration was formalized with a memorandum of understanding signed on October 27th.
Furthermore, Cebu Pacific, led by the Gokongwei family, has pledged to operate special flights to aid OFWs during emergencies and natural disasters. The company also plans to offer internship opportunities for future flight crew and attendants, specifically aimed at OFWs and their offspring.
Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, emphasized the airline’s dedication: “Our goal is not just about offering flights; we are devoted to crafting a significant experience for our fellow Filipinos.” She further remarked on the airline’s understanding of the hardships faced by OFWs and stressed its commitment to safety, affordability, and reliability.
UFG President, Gemma Soto, also expressed hope that the collaboration would have a positive impact on OFWs and their families.
Notably, last year, Cebu Pacific successfully repatriated over 11,000 Filipinos from the Middle East, including Dubai, amidst the global pandemic.
The airline currently operates flights to 35 domestic and 25 international locations throughout Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Its forthcoming route will connect passengers to Da Nang, Vietnam, launching on December 7th. There are also plans to reinstate the Manila-Beijing route in the coming year.
