Cebu Pacific flight makes emergency landing in Cebu due to landing gear issue

A Cebu Pacific flight bound for Manila was forced to return to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) on Saturday morning due to a landing gear malfunction.

According to a Daily Tribune report, the aircraft, carrying 162 adults and one infant, circled the airport twice to burn fuel before safely executing an emergency landing. Passengers recounted that the crew instructed them to brace for impact, with some seen in distress during the ordeal.

Filmmaker Remton Siega Zuasola, one of the passengers, shared his experience on Facebook, expressing relief and gratitude for surviving the emergency.

According to initial reports from MCIA’s Nerve Command Center, a sensor failure prevented the system from detecting the landing gear. The issue was resolved mid-air, allowing the plane to land without further incident.

MCIA officials confirmed that Cebu Pacific will issue an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, airport authorities are also attending to the visit of newly appointed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.
