Cebu airport to launch direct flights to Brisbane by December

Cebu travelers will soon have a more seamless way to reach Australia, as Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) gears up to launch direct flights to Brisbane this December.

The route will be operated by Australian budget airline Jetstar, marking the airport’s 12th international destination. This development is seen as a significant step in expanding MCIA’s global network and improving connectivity for travelers from Cebu and nearby provinces.

“Over the past months, our teams have worked closely to explore this opportunity, and we are pleased that this is finally happening,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz Infracapital Cebu Airport Corporation, the airport’s private operator.

Officials are optimistic the new Brisbane route will support continued growth at the airport, which handled 11.3 million passengers in 2024. Passenger traffic in the first half of 2025 has already climbed to nearly 6 million—up from 5.5 million during the same period last year.

Alongside the new route, MCIA is also set to upgrade its commercial offerings by introducing more retail stores before the end of the year.
