Cathay Pacific to launch direct flights connecting Hong Kong and Riyadh

Cathay Pacific has announced the launch of direct passenger flights between Hong Kong and Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, starting October 28, 2024. This move aims to enhance connectivity, trade, and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Belt and Road Initiative countries.

The announcement was made during a signing ceremony in Hong Kong attended by key officials, including Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung, Saudi Arabia’s Consul General in Hong Kong, Hamad Aljebreen, Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam, and Saudi Air Connectivity Program CEO Majid Khan.

“This new route marks a significant milestone in the aviation partnership between Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia,” said Lam Sai-hung. He emphasized the Hong Kong SAR Government’s commitment to expanding aviation services along major routes and the Belt and Road regions, which will further consolidate Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation hub.

Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam expressed excitement about the new service, which will operate thrice weekly using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. “This new service will offer more travel options and greater convenience for our customers, promoting business, trade, and tourism opportunities,” he said.

Majid Khan of the Saudi Air Connectivity Program noted that the new flights would enhance Saudi Arabia’s tourism potential by providing direct access from key markets in Cathay Pacific’s network, including China, Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and other APAC countries.
