Cathay Pacific launches non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Riyadh

Cathay Pacific has launched a new non-stop passenger service connecting Hong Kong to Riyadh, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion into the Middle East. The inaugural flight, which departed on October 28, 2024, enhances travel and business opportunities between Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia’s capital, opening the doors for cultural and economic exchanges in the region.

The launch event at Hong Kong International Airport included a ceremony led by Cathay Group Chair Patrick Healy and Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau. High-profile attendees, including Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Hong Kong Hamad Aljebreen, and officials from the Belt and Road Initiative, underscored the importance of this new route for deepening ties. Financial Secretary Chan highlighted that the direct link aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Hong Kong’s expanding role in the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to strengthen both business and cultural exchanges.

Cathay Pacific will operate three flights per week between Hong Kong and Riyadh with its Airbus A350-900, offering Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins. The airline also runs daily flights to Dubai and complements these services with existing cargo routes between Hong Kong and Riyadh, in operation since 2021.

Celebrating the route’s launch, Cathay Pacific hosted an evening reception in Riyadh on October 29, bringing together over 100 dignitaries and representatives from the Saudi and Hong Kong business communities.
