ACT Teachers Representative France Castro disclosed that she has been receiving death threats and harassment via text messages and phone calls after the Makabayan bloc announced plans to meet with groups endorsing impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Castro denounced the threats, vowing not to be intimidated. “These cowardly acts of intimidation will not deter us from pursuing accountability,” she said in a statement. The lawmaker emphasized the importance of holding those behind these actions accountable.
One of the threatening messages came from an unidentified number and included curses warning her against visiting Davao City. She also received harassment calls from two other unknown numbers. Castro noted that the threats escalated after her push to engage with the impeachment endorsers.
“Hindi ako magpapasindak sa mga pagbabanta at harassment na ito. Lalo lang nilang pinapatunayan na tama ang ating ginagawa sa pagpapanagot sa lumustay sa pera ng bayan,” Castro added.
Former ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio urged the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the threats. He also called on members of Congress to condemn the attacks.
Castro’s office confirmed that the threats had been reported to the House of Representatives Office of the Secretary General and the NBI for further action.
