Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo, a two-time gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, recently addressed the ongoing rift with his family in an interview on Toni Talks hosted by Toni Gonzaga. Yulo explained how he handled both the celebrations of his victories and the controversies surrounding his personal life, particularly with his mother.
In the interview, Yulo expressed gratitude to those who supported him but remained unfazed by the criticisms he received. “Grateful ako na sine-celebrate nila ‘yung pagkapanalo ko,” Yulo said, noting that despite the harsh judgments, he knows himself well and remains confident in his integrity.
Gonzaga asked why Yulo had chosen not to share his side of the family issue in detail. Yulo responded, “Personal din po kasi masyado… Basta ako, alam ko po sa sarili ko, sa puso ko, na napatawad ko sila.” He acknowledged his mistakes, admitting that he had acted emotionally in defending himself during the family conflict. He shared that after much reflection and prayer, he has decided to focus on moving forward and nurturing his relationship with his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose.
The rift between Yulo and his family, particularly his mother, became public after Carlos accused her of mismanaging his financial incentives from his sporting achievements. His mother, Angelica Yulo, has denied the accusations, maintaining that their family’s lifestyle has remained modest even after Carlos’ success. Despite the dispute, Carlos acknowledged his mother’s recent congratulations on his Olympic triumphs and remains hopeful for reconciliation.
