Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo has been awarded a P10 million bonus by the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) for winning gold medals in the vault and floor exercise events at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The award was presented in a ceremony at Waterside in Solaire, Pasay City, with Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and Christian Martin Gonzalez, representing ICTSI chairman and CEO Enrique Razon, in attendance.
“Thank you to ICTSI, Sir Ricky [Razon], and POC president, Mayor Abraham Tolentino,” Yulo expressed his gratitude during the ceremony. “We are all hoping they will continue supporting us up to the next Olympics and overseas competitions.”
ICTSI also recognized the efforts of other Filipino Olympians, rewarding bronze medalist boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio with P2 million each, while the rest of the 22-athlete team received P200,000 bonuses.
Tolentino, who initiated the rewards, praised the athletes’ dedication. “Our national athletes have performed their very best in the greatest show on earth at the Paris Olympics,” he said, thanking ICTSI for their support.
Gonzalez, ICTSI executive vice president, highlighted the importance of backing athletes. “It’s very important for us supporting our athletes; it’s very important for our country,” he said.
Yulo, who has earned over P90 million in bonuses for his Olympic triumphs, said the support is overwhelming. “It is really unexpected to receive another cash reward after they recognized our accomplishments, hard work in practices, and sacrifices,” he added.
