The Philippine Olympic Team, led by gymnastics hero Carlos Yulo, made a brief stopover in Dubai on Tuesday, August 13, during their journey back to Manila following an outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics.
The team, which secured two gold medals from Yulo in gymnastics and two bronze medals from boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, is set to receive a hero’s welcome upon arrival in the Philippines. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will personally greet the delegation at Villamor Air Base in Pasay before hosting them at Malacañang Palace.
Under Republic Act 10699, Yulo will receive P20 million for his double gold victories, while Petecio and Villegas will each receive P2 million. Marcos is also expected to present additional bonuses to the athletes, continuing the tradition of rewarding Filipino sports champions.
