Carla Abellana opens up about her egg freezing journey: ‘Life happened’

Actress Carla Abellana has shared her deeply personal decision to freeze her eggs, opening up about the challenges and emotions that came with it.

In a video uploaded to her Instagram page on March 30, Abellana said she initially planned to undergo the procedure years ago but had to delay it. “Life happened so I had to postpone the process for over a year and a half,” she revealed, though she chose not to elaborate on the reasons behind the delay.

Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, involves extracting, freezing, and storing a woman’s eggs to preserve fertility — a method increasingly embraced by women who want to take control of their reproductive timeline.

Abellana resumed the process in 2024 after the fertility clinic she first consulted with opened a new branch closer to her home. The journey, she said, hasn’t been easy. “I had lost count of how many daily injections I had to endure. If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!” she shared in her post.

She described the experience as “transformative,” emphasizing how much it demanded not just physically, but emotionally. “My journey towards egg freezing has been a transformative experience — one that required a lot of research, emotional preparation, and support,” Abellana wrote in the caption.

Grateful for the care she received, she acknowledged the medical professionals who guided her every step of the way. “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved — their kindness, support, and expertise made all the difference,” she said.
