Careem’s 2023 data: Water and bananas most delivered items in UAE

The multi-service app Careem has highlighted some intriguing behaviors among its UAE users in 2023. One notable instance was a resident bypassing the notorious long queues for the latest iPhone by ordering an iPhone 15 and an Apple Watch Ultra 2 via the app. This order, totaling $2,042 (Dh7,500), marked the largest single Quik Groceries purchase on Careem last year.

Additionally, the app’s DineOut feature saw a significant transaction when a customer spent $20,420 (Dh75,000) at an Indian vegetarian restaurant, purchasing Diwali gift boxes.

In terms of delivery, Quik recorded a remarkable 473 orders from a single customer throughout the year and achieved a record-breaking delivery time of just one minute. The peak delivery hours were found to be between 7 pm and 9 pm, with water and bananas topping the list of most ordered items. Careem humorously noted that the amount of bananas ordered in 2023 equated to the weight of over 1,000 gorillas, and the water ordered could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

A healthy trend was also observed, with a substantial 80% increase in healthy food orders. Careem Pay’s international remittance service showed the last Thursday of each month as the most popular day for sending money to India and Pakistan, with one customer transferring a total of $76,389 to Pakistan over the year. The quickest remittance transfer was recorded at 16 seconds, from the UAE to India.

For transportation, the most traveled intercity route was between Dubai and Sharjah. Items frequently forgotten in Careem rides included a bridal dress, a pillow, a ring, and a hair wig. The most active bike rider in the UAE completed 4,357 trips, primarily delivering orders from a restaurant in JLT. The longest bike ride recorded was an adventurous 5 hours and 38 minutes journey around the Al Qudra bike track.
