Careem introduces new feature that doubles AED 10+ tips for Captains across UAE

Careem, in partnership with Hala, has introduced a Ramadan initiative aimed at increasing earnings for delivery and ride Captains through a new limited-time feature called “Tip Matching” across the UAE, including Hala Taxi Captains operating through the Careem platform.

Running from February 18 to March 19, the feature allows Careem to match customer tips worth AED 10 or more, without adding any extra cost to the customer. The matched amount will be added on top of the original tip, effectively doubling what the Captain receives during the Holy Month.

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and co-founder of Careem, said: ” Captains are the heartbeat of Careem. They serve our communities with relentless dedication, often while fasting during Ramadan. This year, we are doubling the impact of our customers’ kindness: 100% of every tip goes directly to our Captains, and Careem will match it dirham-for-dirham. Rooted in our value of being ‘Generous,’ this initiative is a tangible way to honor the spirit of the Holy Month and improve the lives of our captains.”

Hala CEO Khaled Nuseibeh also highlighted the role of taxi Captains on the platform, saying: “Hala Taxi Captains are an integral part of the Careem platform, and this initiative ensures they directly benefit from the increased generosity seen during Ramadan. Tip Matching is a meaningful way to support Captains on the road, helping them earn more while continuing to deliver a reliable service for passengers across Dubai during the Holy Month.”

Under the new feature, tips made after rides, deliveries, or Hala Taxi trips booked through the app will be matched automatically once the amount reaches AED 10 or higher. Careem said all tips, including the matched portion, will be sent in full to the Captain.

The company added that the total amount is deposited immediately into the Captain’s Careem Pay account, allowing instant access and the option to transfer funds directly to a bank account.

For Captains, the initiative is expected to provide added support during a period when many are balancing long working hours with fasting.

Muhammad Shahbaz, a Captain for five years from Gujrat, Pakistan, shared: “I built my own house, and all four of my children are getting a good education. I even brought my brother to Dubai to work on the Careem app so he could have the same opportunities. When someone tips me, I know exactly where that money is going. Straight to my family’s future.”

Another Captain, Adeel Muhammad, who has been with Careem for seven years and is originally from Punjab, Pakistan, said: “I’ve been on Careem since 2018. In that time, I built a double-story house back home, put all four of my children in school, and I take care of my mother’s medical needs. Every ride, every tip, it all adds up. It’s how I provide for the people who depend on me.”

Careem and Hala also announced that they will be providing daily Iftar meals to Captains across the UAE throughout Ramadan, supporting those who are breaking their fast while working on the road.
