Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has been named the new titular bishop of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Albano, one of the most historically significant dioceses surrounding Rome.
The appointment was announced Saturday by Pope Leo XIV, who previously held the same title prior to his election as pontiff on May 8, following the passing of Pope Francis.
“The Holy Father has assigned the Title of the Suburbicarian Church of Albano to His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle,” the Vatican said, noting his current role as pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization in the Section for First Evangelization and the new particular Churches.
The Suburbicarian Diocese of Albano is one of the seven dioceses traditionally linked to senior members of the Roman clergy. Tagle’s appointment further affirms his prominence in the Catholic Church, as he continues to play a key role in guiding global evangelization efforts.
