Dubai’s elite competed for premium car plate numbers at the ‘Most Noble Number’ charity auction, where plate DD 5 emerged as the top prize, selling for a staggering Dh35 million. The auction, held at Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa, raised over Dh75 million from car plate sales alone, with total proceeds reaching Dh83.6 million, including bids for 20 exclusive mobile numbers.
According to a Gulf News report, the event, organized by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in partnership with Emirates Auction and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), supports the Fathers’ Endowment campaign, which funds healthcare projects in underserved communities.
Leading the auction was Binghatti Holding’s Chairman, Muhammad BinGhatti, whose team secured the DD 5 plate, making it the most expensive purchase of the night. The company also acquired DD 15 for Dh9.2 million, bringing their total contribution to Dh44.2 million—more than half of the total amount raised from car plate sales.
Other notable sales included DD 12, which sold for Dh12.8 million, and DD 77, which fetched Dh12.6 million. A young child, dubbed ‘the cub’ by event hosts, also took part, successfully bidding Dh6.3 million for plate DD 24 on behalf of his father.
The auction also saw fierce competition for premium mobile numbers, raising over Dh7 million. The most expensive mobile number, du 0584444444, sold for Dh1.7 million, while e& UAE 0565000000 fetched Dh1.6 million.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre is set to auction 444 special plate numbers through the Emirates Auction app, offering another opportunity for collectors and philanthropists to bid for a cause.
