Canadian national caught with P164M worth of shabu at NAIA

Authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) arrested a Canadian traveler on Monday after she was found carrying approximately P164 million worth of suspected shabu, according to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP).

Personnel from the Office for Transportation Security flagged the woman’s luggage at NAIA Terminal 3 during routine x-ray screening after spotting suspicious white substances inside. The alert prompted a manual inspection by a Bureau of Customs officer, who discovered plastic bags containing a crystalline white powder.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) later confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu. The seized drugs weighed about 24 kilograms and had an estimated street value of P164.77 million.

The suspect is now under the custody of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group and is facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
