Camille Villar pushes for task force to address AI-driven job losses

Deputy Speaker Camille Villar has proposed the formation of an inter-agency task force to tackle the potential job losses caused by the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology in various industries.

Under House Bill No. 11308, or the Workers’ Protection and Skills Development in the Digital Economy Act, Villar emphasized the need for an early warning system to identify sectors most likely to be affected by AI and automation, potentially displacing workers.

She expressed concern over the rapid evolution of technology, including AI and machine learning, which has reshaped industries at an unprecedented speed.

“As these changes accelerate, the future of work is shifting fundamentally, and the ability to transition into new jobs is more critical than ever,” Villar said.

The proposed legislation aims to equip workers with the necessary skills to adapt to technological advancements. It seeks to provide support for those at risk of displacement, promote upskilling and reskilling, and ease career transitions into the digital economy.
