Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac has called on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to remain committed to observing the laws of their host nations as well as the Philippines, while underscoring the government’s promise to safeguard their welfare.
“Patuloy po tayong maglingkod nang tapat at ayon sa batas ng host country at ng ating sariling batas,” Cacdac said, reminding OFWs that help is always available through the DMW Hotline 1348 or +631348 for those abroad.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Filipino domestic workers, particularly single mothers striving to raise multiple children on their own. “Nararapat lamang pong pagkalooban ng suporta ang ating mga domestic workers dahil sa kanilang pagsisikap at sa paraan ng kanilang pagtataguyod ng pamilya at mga anak,” he added, stressing that the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) will continue to expand support and opportunities for them.
Cacdac also noted that every official trip of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. abroad has been met with recognition from foreign leaders, who praise the dedication and hard work of Filipino workers that benefit host economies.
The secretary highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at empowering OFWs, such as the Know Your Employers Program, which connects domestic helpers with prospective employers through video calls prior to deployment, and the Kumusta Kabayan initiative where DMW staff regularly check in with workers overseas to ensure their wellbeing.
“Sa ating mga domestic helpers, katuwang ninyo kami sa DMW. Sa ilalim ng ating mga reporma, tatawagan namin kayo upang kumustahin at tiyaking hindi kayo mapapabayaan,” Cacdac emphasized.
He further appealed to host governments to fully implement the standard employment contract for Filipino migrant workers to guarantee fair treatment and adequate protection.
