Cacdac calls Filipino seafarers the nation’s pride on National Seafarers’ Day

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac expressed strong support for the country’s maritime sector during the 30th National Seafarers’ Day celebration held Sunday in Manila.

In his address, Cacdac lauded the vital role of Filipino seafarers in sustaining global trade and contributing to national growth. He reassured them that the government is committed to protecting their rights, welfare, and dignity.

He emphasized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to streamline processes for maritime workers, pushing for a “Red Carpet, Hindi Red Tape” approach in recruitment and deployment. Tanggapin, suportahan, at tulungan silang makapaglayag muli,” he said.

Cacdac also thanked manning agencies and partner institutions for ensuring the safe and ethical employment of Filipino mariners worldwide.

Highlighting the DMW’s maritime agenda, Cacdac pointed to three pillars: the passage of the Magna Carta for Seafarers, a tougher stance against illegal recruitment and human trafficking, and continued assistance for seafarers and their families, especially those affected by conflicts in maritime zones such as the Red Sea.

Cacdac ended his message with gratitude and praise for Filipino mariners’ sacrifice and service: “Sa lahat ng Pilipinong marino, salamat sa inyong serbisyo, sakripisyo, at lakas. Mabuhay kayo!”
