Bye, summer! Temperatures in UAE to start decreasing gradually with Suhail star

Yesterday marked the beginning of the ‘Suhail’ season in the UAE, an eagerly anticipated time that promises relief from the relentless summer heat.

Starting from August 24, the Suhail star will be visible at dawn in the Arabian Peninsula, ushering in milder temperatures and cooler nights.

The appearance of the Suhail star carries significant cultural and historical importance in the region. While not resulting in an immediate shift in weather, it foretells the transition to more temperate conditions. The equinox, marking the moment when day and night are roughly equal in length, will occur 45 days after the star’s appearance.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, clarified on Twitter the timeline for the star’s emergence. Initially expected between August 15 and 18, Al Jarwan highlighted that southern regions like Liwa may have spotted it yesterday, while northern areas such as Ras Al Khaimah will likely see it after August 25.

The start of the Suhail season holds a special place in the hearts of UAE residents. Not only is it an astronomical event that signals changes in rain and temperature, but it also represents a symbolic promise of comfort after a long and sweltering summer.
