Nizar Choucair, the visionary Lebanese businessman who turned his childhood love for chocolate into the globally renowned brand ‘Patchi’, has passed away. Prayers for the esteemed octogenarian are scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Al Khashoggi Mosque.
Condolences will be accepted at the Mohyee Aldin Barghouth Hall – Al Khashoggi Mosque before the burial. Following the burial, mourners can pay their respects on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at the Seaside Pavilion Hall, Beirut Waterfront.
Patchi’s social media pages posted a heartfelt condolence message: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Nizar Choucair, our beloved founder. Mr. Choucair was a man whose warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him.”
The company highlighted Choucair’s transformative impact on the chocolate industry, noting, “His visionary approach transformed chocolate into an art that evokes emotions and creates cherished memories. His legacy lives on through Patchi, a brand that has reached hearts across cultures and celebrations.”
Choucair’s journey began at the age of 11 when he fell in love with chocolate. In 1974, he revolutionized the chocolate gifting concept, elevating it to an art form that creates memorable experiences. His innovative vision allowed Patchi to evolve and expand significantly, reaching diverse cultures and markets.
Born in Beirut, Choucair moved to Kuwait at 18 and initially worked for a gas manufacturing company. He later returned to Lebanon, launching ‘Patchi’ chocolates. Starting with a single shop and four employees, he expanded to over 150 branches worldwide.
