Pop icon Britney Spears disclosed that she had an abortion during her relationship with Justin Timberlake over two decades ago from her forthcoming memoir ‘The Woman in Me’. The book is set to release on October 24.
Spears, 41, writes, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.” The memoir dives deep into the early stages of their relationship, from their initial meeting as child stars on Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club to their rise as one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples. The pair eventually parted ways in 2002.
Spears recounts Timberlake’s apprehension about the pregnancy, stating he felt they were “way too young” to be parents. Describing the abortion, she shares, “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
Timberlake, currently 42 and married to actor Jessica Biel, has not commented on the revelation.
After ending things with Timberlake, Spears went on to have two sons, Sean and Jayden, with her second husband, Kevin Federline. Following a much-publicized breakdown in 2008, she found herself under a controversial conservatorship led primarily by her father, Jamie. During a court testimony in 2021, Spears stated that the conservatorship had barred her from removing a contraceptive IUD despite her wish to become pregnant again.
“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child,” Spears laments in her memoir.
The conservatorship was officially terminated in November 2021. Sadly, Spears revealed in 2022 that she had experienced a miscarriage. Later in August, her third husband, Sam Asghari, announced that the couple was filing for divorce.
