A British Base jumper, Nathy Odinson, aged 33 and hailing from Cambridgeshire, tragically lost his life in Thailand when his parachute failed to open during a daredevil stunt. The incident occurred on Saturday night when Odinson illegally ascended a 29-storey building in Pattaya, a coastal resort.
Disturbing footage of the ill-fated jump was recorded by a Thai friend and shared on social media. In the video, Odinson can be heard counting down “three, two, one, see ya” before landing in a tree and subsequently hitting the ground. Photos from the scene depict what seems to be a blue parachute lying next to a protective helmet.
Ed Harrison, Odinson’s 39-year-old brother from St Neots, revealed that the video indicated a malfunction where Odinson’s mini pilot chute got entangled in his harness, leaving no chance for it to deploy. Despite his extensive experience, having completed 5,000 jumps worldwide, Odinson made a fatal error that led to his demise.
Describing his late brother, Harrison stated, “He will be missed by so many… He was fun-loving and joyful and great with kids. He was a hero to my three.”
Police Lieutenant Kamolporn Nadee, the deputy inspector of investigations at the Bang Lamung district police station, reported, “The parachute that the deceased used to jump malfunctioned and was not centered as expected. Forensics officers are investigating the case further. They are examining the parachute.”
A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed, “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand.”
