BPI to discontinue ‘load e-wallet’ feature for GCash, Maya starting February 13

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) will remove the “load e-wallet” feature for GCash and Maya users on its mobile app beginning February 13, the bank announced.

Despite the change, customers can still fund their GCash and Maya accounts using the “transfer to other banks” feature on the BPI app, though this will come with a P25 transfer fee—more than double the previous P10 charge for direct BPI-to-GCash transfers.

GCash users also have the option to link their BPI accounts within the GCash app and cash in directly for a reduced fee of P5.

Both GCash and BPI are part of the Ayala Group, but BPI operates its own e-wallet, VYBE. The bank also announced that transfers from VYBE to other e-wallets will remain free.
