Bohol artist to receive prestigious Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize in Milan

A visual artist hailing from the Province of Bohol is poised to receive the esteemed Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize in Milan, Italy, GMA Regional TV reported. This accolade honors contemporary artists for their artistic merit, and Elvin Perocho Vitor has earned it through his hyper-surreal painting of Pedro Angco, a fellow Boholano artist and environmental advocate. The 53×89-inch masterpiece celebrates Angco’s contributions to environmental sustainability and upcycling.

Vitor’s artwork reflects his deep admiration for Bohol’s heritage, culture, and traditional wisdom, including its pre-colonial scripts, Kudlit and Eskaya. His commitment to promoting Boholano culture extends to using the native language for the titles of his works, drawing inspiration from international artists who embrace their mother tongues globally.

With an exhibition scheduled for April 13, 2024, Vitor is eager to personally accept his award and engage with art patrons in France, where he has commissioned works. The award ceremony will take place at the National Museum of Science and Technology – Leonardo da Vinci, attracting art enthusiasts, collectors, and journalists. Vitor’s achievements will also be highlighted in “Contemporary Celebrity Masters Volume II 2024,” a compilation featuring influential contemporary artists and a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci.

Vitor’s unique artistic style, characterized by hyper-realism and vivid colors, is influenced by his severe myopia, which has shaped his visual perception since grade school. His faith plays a crucial role in his life and work, as he believes in the divine plan for his career and aspirations.

The Leonardo da Vinci International Art Prize includes a custom-made trophy, symbolizing the connection between the Renaissance genius and contemporary artists like Vitor.
