The remains of a Filipino crew member who died when the Liberia-flagged M/V Eternity C came under attack by Houthi forces have been brought back to the Philippines on Friday night, December 6. Government officials and the seafarer’s family received the body at the airport, where the atmosphere was marked by grief and quiet respect.
Authorities earlier confirmed that the seafarer was among those killed when the vessel was struck in the Red Sea and later abandoned following multiple assaults by the rebels. The attack left several Filipino crew members dead while others were taken hostage before being freed in separate repatriation efforts.
Representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration were present upon arrival, standing alongside relatives as formal procedures were completed. According to the agency, “buong suporta ang ibibigay sa pamilya,” with its regional office in Region 6 handling immediate coordination.
Assistance will include support for the wake and burial, along with additional aid intended to help the bereaved family manage the difficult period that follows the repatriation of their loved one.
