Blogger Sass Sasot slapped with cyber libel case over online post

Former Department of Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno has filed a cyber libel complaint against blogger Sass Rogando Sasot, citing what she described as malicious and false claims made against her online.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Magno confirmed the filing, stating that she has been the target of defamatory accusations from Sasot. “It’s time to push back and to use all the legal remedies available to us to put an end to this display of impunity,” she wrote.

The friction between Magno and Sasot stems from their heated online exchanges since late 2023, particularly over Magno’s criticism of Vice President Sara Duterte’s use of confidential funds.

Speaking to GMA News Online, Magno pointed to a February 6 post by Sasot as one of the final straws. The post sarcastically claimed that Magno was so angry at a person named Mary Grace Piattos that she allocated billions of pesos for lawmakers to find her—a statement Magno considered defamatory.

Magno said she hopes the complaint helps “restore civility and begin a path towards accountability and good governance.”
