Blistering summer in UAE to last until August 10, experts warn of severe heat

The UAE has officially entered its fiercest stretch of summer heat, with scorching temperatures, dry winds, and sweltering humidity expected to last until August 10, according to leading astronomers.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, confirmed that the country is now experiencing “Jamrat Al Qayth”—the hottest and driest phase of the season across the Arabian Peninsula. “This is the peak of heat and dryness across the region,” he said in a Gulf News report, noting that some desert areas may see temperatures soar beyond 50°C, intensified by the hot, dry winds known as Samoom.

Al Jarwan also highlighted the ongoing cycle of heat waves—defined as sustained rises of 3°C or more above the seasonal norm for at least two days. These patterns, he explained, bring extreme heat and arid conditions that challenge even the hardiest desert landscapes.

The current heat wave, which follows the recently concluded “Gale of the Pleiades” that ended on July 2, is set to linger through July 28. A fresh surge in temperature is then expected from July 29 through August 10.

Officials are urging residents to avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours and to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
