All four members of the renowned girl group Blackpink have successfully renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment. This decision was disclosed in a regulatory filing by the label on Wednesday.
The group, comprising Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé, has confirmed they will continue to perform as a quartet. The specific duration of the new contracts, however, remains undisclosed.
Previously, the expiration of their contracts in August had sparked widespread speculation among international fans. Concerns were raised about the possibility of the members embarking on solo careers, potentially leading to the dissolution of one of South Korea’s most successful musical exports.
YG Entertainment, in its filing, stated, “The board has completed a resolution about renewing the contracts with Blackpink’s four members.”
Since their debut in 2016, Blackpink has achieved remarkable global success, setting numerous records. In 2022, they made history as the first female K-Pop group to top the UK and US album charts. Their 2020 release “How You Like That” set a record for the most views on YouTube within 24 hours. Moreover, in 2019, they became the first female K-Pop group to perform at Coachella and other major US festivals.
The announcement of the contract renewal had an immediate positive impact on YG Entertainment’s financial standing. The company’s shares, which had been declining since mid-September, saw a dramatic increase of 22% following the news.
