Dubai-based billionaire Mirwais Azizi has pledged Dh3 billion to build a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in memory of his daughter, who passed away from cancer last year. The Afghan businessman and chairman of Azizi Group of Companies announced the donation during the 5th Arab Hope Makers award ceremony in Dubai.
Azizi’s contribution is part of the Fathers’ Endowment campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. His donation surpasses the campaign’s initial Dh1 billion target, making it the largest contribution to similar charitable initiatives.
In an emotional tribute, Azizi and his family honored Farishta Jan Azizi, who died at 32, through a video shown at the event. In a Gulf News report, he shared that the hospital and research center will provide free cancer treatment, ensuring patients no longer need to seek care abroad.
Azizi, who has previously supported multiple philanthropic initiatives, confirmed that construction of the hospital will begin this year, with further details to be announced through Sheikh Mohammed’s offices. His generosity aligns with the UAE’s 2025 “Year of Community” initiative, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to healthcare and social welfare.
