TasteAtlas has released its 50 Best Pork Dishes for May, highlighting six dishes from the Philippines. Lechon, the renowned slow-roasted suckling pig stuffed with lemongrass, tamarind, garlic, onions, and chives, achieved the highest ranking among Filipino dishes, placing 29th. The dish, famously praised by the late Anthony Bourdain, led the Philippine entries.
Lechon Kawali secured the 33rd spot, followed by Bicol Express at 34th, Inihaw na Liempo at 40th, Adobong Baboy at 42nd, and Sisig at 46th.
The top pork dish was Lechona from Colombia, a traditional meal featuring a whole roasted pig stuffed with onions, peas, rice, fresh herbs, and spices. Puerto Rico’s Pernil claimed second place, while Mexico’s Gringas, Tacos al Pastor, and Conchinita Pibil rounded out the top five.
TasteAtlas, an online publication dedicated to exploring local food, frequently includes Filipino dishes in its rankings. In March, it featured Bibingka, Kwek-kwek, and Taho in its Top 100 Southeast Asian street foods. Last year, Sinigang was included in the Top 100 Best Dishes in the World at 97th, and Leche Flan ranked third in the Best Custards in the World.
