BI expects daily departures to surpass 40,000 after New Year celebrations

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is preparing for a surge in outbound travelers, projecting daily departures to exceed 40,000 after the New Year.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado revealed that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been managing over 40,000 daily arrivals throughout December, with a record high of 51,000 on a single day.

“After Christmas, we have processed nearly 40,000 departures each day,” said Viado. “These numbers are expected to grow as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and former Filipinos who visited for the holidays begin to return to their workplaces and homes abroad.”

Viado also highlighted the agency’s efficient operations during the holiday rush, reporting no major issues or delays.

“We remain confident that the smooth flow of operations will continue as travel volumes increase after the New Year,” he added.
