Journalist Bernadette Sembrano provided an update on Friday regarding the dream house she is constructing, emphasizing its inclusive design to cater to children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), pets, and the elderly.
In her Instagram post, Sembrano revealed that the project has been a long-time dream, dating back to 2008 or 2010, with the goal of creating a space that fosters quality time for families with elderly members or PWDs. She expressed her frustration that such spaces are often an afterthought in many homes, leading her to embark on this unique project.
“We are not building a home for the aged, but we are building our house in a farm, starting with this inclusive concept in our family house in Cavite,” Sembrano explained.
The house, currently under construction in Cavite, is designed with the concept of “Universal Design” in mind, ensuring accessibility and comfort for all inhabitants. Sembrano credited Architect Gas and her friend, sustainability architect Nina Quintos, for helping bring her vision to life, despite the challenges and delays encountered along the way.
“The process is taking time because this concept is new to me. But thank God for leading me to people with the expertise I needed,” she said, adding that the project is intended not just as a home but as a community space for close friends and family.
Sembrano’s passion for inclusivity is evident in her vision to create a space where visitors can connect regardless of age or ability. The house, affectionately named “UNI,” symbolizes unity and togetherness—a fitting tribute to Sembrano’s commitment to building a community-oriented environment.
