Chowder, the much-loved internet-famous chow chow, has passed away, as announced by his fur parents on his Instagram account.
“We would like to thank everyone here, that has been following Chowder for the past 11 years,” they wrote. “To everyone that has commented and messaged us with kind and comforting words, thank you. Chowder has fought a tough battle, but it brings us peace knowing that he is now running free without any pain in doggie heaven.”
Chowder, who had amassed over 330,000 followers on Instagram, was known for bringing joy and happiness to many with his fluffy appearance and charming antics. “He has touched the lives of so many, and we want you all to know that he left the earth peacefully and is no longer suffering or in pain,” the post continued.
Chowder passed away on Wednesday, July 31, just two days before his birthday. His owners expressed their hope that he is now enjoying the “grandest celebration eating treats with other pets, unlimited chicken and running around free with all the other dogs in heaven.”
The heartfelt message concluded with gratitude for the support from his followers: “Again, thank you for following him and watching all of his dogventures here on social media. Chowder is a legend and will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace, Chowder. He will watch all of us. We love you.”
Earlier, on July 22, his owners had asked for prayers after Chowder was diagnosed with multiple health issues, including an autoimmune disease (IMHA), cancer, bone spurs, arthritis, and an infection.
