Kabosu, the iconic Shiba Inu whose image launched the popular cryptocurrency Dogecoin and several other meme tokens, passed away early Friday, according to a blog post by his owner. Kabosu was over 17 years old.
A farewell party for Kabosu, affectionately known as “Kabo-chan,” will be held on Sunday, May 26th. The event will take place at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1pm to 4pm.
Kabosu’s viral meme picture, which became famous in 2013, inspired the creation of Dogecoin (DOGE) as a joke currency. Despite its humorous beginnings, DOGE gained significant popularity, leading to the creation of other dog-themed tokens like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Floki (FLOKI). These tokens have collectively become a major sector within the cryptocurrency industry.
