Actress Bea Alonzo has decided to withdraw the cyber libel case she filed against showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin and her co-hosts, ending a legal dispute that has been ongoing for nearly two years.
In a statement released by her legal counsel, Garcia Elauria Ruanto & Associates, on Friday, Feb. 13, Alonzo confirmed that she has dropped the complaint involving Fermin and her fellow hosts Wendell Alvarez and Romel Villamor, who are part of the YouTube program “Showbiz Now Na.”
“After two years of legal proceedings & with the case pending before the Regional Trial Court, this matter has run its course under the law. The process has not been easy for any party involved. It has required accountability, reflection & fortitude,” the statement read.
Her lawyers emphasized that the decision should not be seen as a sign of defeat or an admission of compromise, describing it instead as a deliberate step rooted in forgiveness as Alonzo shifts her attention to her advocacies.
“Upon deep reflection, Ms. Alonzo has chosen to forgive. Not out of weakness but out of strength. Not to erase what was done, but to free herself from a cycle of harm & hostility that no longer serves her life or her purpose,” the statement continued.
“She views this chapter not as something to carry forward but as something to close, with grace, dignity & peace. Moving forward, Ms. Alonzo wishes to focus on what truly matters: her work, her advocacies & her role as a woman who uplifts others, particularly those navigating their own silent battles,” it added.
Fermin and her co-hosts had previously released a public apology addressed to Alonzo, saying they regretted what happened and stressing that they had no intention of damaging her name.
They also pledged to avoid making further remarks that could portray the actress negatively, while expressing appreciation for her willingness to accept their apology.
“To Ms. Alonzo, we extend our gratitude. We are hopeful that we can both move on from this chapter with a renewed understanding and mutual respect. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and for giving us the chance to rectify our unintended shortcomings,” their statement read.
Alonzo initially filed the cyber libel complaint in May 2024, accusing the respondents of spreading false and malicious claims about her through their online show.
In July 2025, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued warrants of arrest against Fermin and two co-respondents, and in August 2025, they posted bail worth P48,000 each.
