Bam Aquino: Tricycle modernization must not cost drivers their livelihood

Former Senator Bam Aquino voiced his opposition on Tuesday against the forced modernization of tricycles without adequate government support, stressing that such efforts should not lead to job losses.

Speaking with tricycle drivers in Quezon City, Aquino emphasized that any shift to electric tricycles should come with an affordable financing program to ensure drivers can continue earning a living.

“Kung pipilitin kayong mag-e-trike, dapat may programa na kung saan kaya niyong makakuha ng unit na abot-kaya, na hindi maaantala ang kita natin,” he told the drivers.

Aquino also defended tricycles’ role in public transport, asserting that the rise of motorcycle taxis should not displace them as they remain essential for commuters.
