Returning Senator Bam Aquino has set his sights on chairing the Senate’s education committee, emphasizing that the role aligns with his campaign promise to reform the country’s education system.
“Definitely, the education portfolio is really my target,” Aquino was quoted as saying by Inquirer.net.
Aquino, who placed second in the recent senatorial elections, said he is eager to resume his advocacy work for education. “I’m really hoping to get that committee so we can fulfill the promises we made during the campaign,” he added.
He revealed that he has asked youth groups and his volunteer networks to pray for his appointment to the committee, highlighting his commitment to see through the education reforms he pledged on the campaign trail.
Aquino has long championed programs such as free college education and initiatives aimed at job generation for the youth. “When we run, we run on free college education, guaranteed jobs, and education reforms,” he said, noting that these remain top concerns among the public.
The committee on basic education is currently chaired by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, while Senator Alan Peter Cayetano leads the panel on higher, technical, and vocational education.
