Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are moving forward with a new passenger sea route project, marking a significant step toward bolstering regional maritime transport and connectivity between the two Gulf nations.
The announcement was made by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, during the Second Maritime Industries Sustainability Conference held in Jeddah. According to Saudi daily Al Eqtisadiah, the new route will link Bahrain’s Khalifa bin Salman Port with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
Officials emphasized that the sea link will benefit not only passenger travel but also cargo transport, offering a more flexible and efficient mode of regional trade and movement. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance cooperation in transport infrastructure across the Gulf.
Alongside this development, Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed that Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are actively discussing the long-awaited King Hamad Causeway. The proposed 25-kilometer structure would complement the current King Fahd Causeway and include dedicated tracks for passenger and freight trains as well as vehicle lanes.
