Baguio tops list of wealthiest cities outside Metro Manila in 2022

According to data unveiled by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Baguio emerged as the wealthiest city outside Metro Manila in 2022. The PSA’s Provincial Product Accounts revealed that Baguio City boasted the highest per capita gross domestic product (GDP) among provinces and highly urbanized cities in the Philippines for that year. With a per capita GDP soaring to P420,016, Baguio’s economic prosperity outstripped the national average, more than doubling it at P178,751.

Following closely behind Baguio is Cagayan de Oro City, with a per capita GDP of P343,936, trailed by Lapu-Lapu City at P313,039, Iloilo City at P306,444, and the province of Bataan at P297,930, completing the top five list of the wealthiest areas outside the capital.

The top 10 roster also includes Cebu City, the province of Laguna, Mandaue City, Davao City, and the province of Batanes, all flaunting per capita GDP figures surpassing the national average.

The PSA’s findings encompass 82 provinces and 17 highly urbanized cities across 16 pilot regions nationwide. Notably, in a separate report released in October, the Commission on Audit (COA) identified Quezon City as the Philippines’ wealthiest concerning assets.
