At just 12 years old, Filipino karting prodigy Axel Nocom continues to make waves on the international racing stage—this time claiming a spot on the podium in Japan’s prestigious Autobacs GPR series held at the iconic Suzuka Circuit.
In his first-ever appearance in the GPR, widely considered the highest level of karting in Japan, Axel finished third overall, becoming the first Filipino karter to reach the podium in the fiercely competitive championship where Japan’s best drivers vie for national glory.

Axel’s third-place finish is not only a personal milestone but also a historic achievement for Philippine motorsports.
Unlike his previous races in the Middle East and Europe, this event marked Axel’s debut using an IAME X30 engine and Dunlop SL22 tires—components that required a steep learning curve. Making things more difficult, heavy rains soaked the two practice days, while race day brought dry conditions.

Despite these challenges, Axel quickly showed his adaptability. After qualifying in 9th place due to limited dry-track experience, he worked his way up to finish 5th in the first race. In the final, Axel surged forward, expertly maneuvering his Kart Republic chassis to secure a remarkable 3rd place.
Representing the Philippines in every race, Axel’s journey has been defined by passion, skill, and perseverance. Just recently, he made headlines for competing in the Champions of the Future Academy Program and representing the country at the FIA Motorsport Games in Spain.
