The critically acclaimed and award-winning film “Firefly” is scheduled to light up cinema screens across the UAE starting January 18.
Directed by Zig Dulay and written by Angeli Guidaya-Atienza, “Firefly” stands out as a gem from the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023.
The film tells the poignant story of 10-year-old Tonton and his single mother Elay, who leads a humble but content life. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Elay discovers she is terminally ill, prompting her to share as many stories as possible with her son. One such story, about a firefly defeating a fearsome beast with its light, captures Tonton’s imagination and forms the heart of the film.
“Firefly” has received significant acclaim, notably securing three major awards at the MMFF 2023. These include the prestigious 1st Best Picture, Best Screenplay for Angeli Atienza, and Best Child Performer for Euwenn Mikaell, who headlines the film.
