An artificial lake near Hong Kong Disneyland has been closed indefinitely following the discovery of a partially burned body on January 26.
The Inspiration Lake Recreation Center, located on Lantau Island, suspended its operations “until further notice,” according to reports from The Standard and South China Morning Post. The center’s main gate was shut on January 27, barring public access.
Hong Kong Disneyland confirmed the closure on its official website.
Authorities launched an investigation after a couple jogging near the recreation center spotted the body at the base of a tree and informed the center’s staff, who then contacted the police at 3:30 p.m.
Police and fire department personnel arrived at the scene and classified the incident as a “dead body found.” Initial findings revealed burns on the upper body, but no personal items or traces of accelerants were recovered.
Inspiration Lake Recreation Center spans 12 hectares and is located about a kilometer from Hong Kong Disneyland.
