Apple has announced its latest operating system, iOS 18, which features the innovative AI component, Apple Intelligence. Revealed on Monday, this new OS will be available in the fall and offers advanced functionalities, including a generative image and emoji maker, an enhanced writing tool, and a significantly improved version of Siri with richer language understanding.
However, Apple Intelligence will only be compatible with the newest iPhone models, specifically the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, both equipped with A17 chips. These devices start at $999.
The AI-powered features will also be accessible on certain iPads and Mac computers. Specifically, the iPad Pro and iPad Air with M1 or newer chips, and various Mac models, including the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini with M1 or later chips. Additionally, the Mac Studio with an M1 Max or later and the Mac Pro with an M2 Ultra will support Apple Intelligence.
Despite the exclusive nature of Apple Intelligence, iOS 18 will still be available for older iPhone models, dating back to the iPhone SE of 2016. The new OS will introduce features such as emergency video streaming via the SOS app, live call transcriptions, and updates to Apple Fitness and the calculator.
