Apple is reportedly advancing its efforts to introduce a foldable iPhone, which could hit the market as early as 2026, according to a report from The Information.
The upcoming device is expected to feature a horizontal fold, similar to the clamshell design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
Earlier this year, The Information noted that Apple was developing two foldable iPhone prototypes. Recent updates suggest that Apple has chosen a design, internally referred to as V68, signifying that the project has moved beyond the conceptual phase and is now in development with suppliers.
The company is reportedly focused on reducing the visible crease when the phone is unfolded and making the device thinner. This aligns with a DigiTimes report, which provided similar insights into Apple’s foldable phone plans. Additionally, rumors indicate that Apple is working on a MacBook-like foldable device slated for a 2026 release.
In other developments, Apple might upgrade next year’s iPhone with a mechanical aperture, allowing users to achieve a depth-of-field effect that blurs backgrounds while keeping subjects in focus. There are also speculations about a significantly thinner iPhone being released in 2025.
