The Apple Watch is set to receive significant functional upgrades with the release of watchOS 11, which will include features such as automatic nap detection. Users running the watchOS 11 developer beta have reported on Reddit that the wearable can now detect naps outside their scheduled sleep times.
Currently, Apple Watch users need to activate Sleep Focus to track and monitor their sleep. However, the new OS update aims to make this process automatic. Sleep data can be accessed through the Health app, providing insights into periods of wakefulness, REM sleep, core sleep, and deep sleep.
During the Worldwide Developers Conference earlier in June, Apple unveiled additional features of watchOS 11. These include the ability to pause Activity Rings during breaks, a new Vitals app for monitoring key health metrics, and a Training Load feature to gauge the impact of workouts over time.
Customization enhancements are also part of the update, with Smart Stack allowing users to easily swipe through widgets and a personalized Photos watch face.
WatchOS 11 will require an iPhone Xs or later with iOS 18 and will be available for Apple Watch SE (2nd gen), Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra, and Ultra 2.
