Apple is reportedly venturing into the realm of foldable technology with plans to develop a series of foldable gadgets, including a phone and a hybrid device, over the next few years.
According to a recent report by 9to5mac, Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, has indicated that Apple is set to begin mass production of a 20.3-inch hybrid gadget by late 2025. This device is expected to serve both as a tablet and a laptop.
“The hybrid device, targeting the ultra-high-end market, marks a significant shift in Apple’s design philosophy,” Pu said.
Further reports from technology experts like Ming Chi-Kuo and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg have suggested that Apple is also working on a foldable MacBook with a similar size screen, expected to be released between 2026 and 2027.
Additionally, The Information has uncovered that Apple is developing a folding tablet with an 8-inch screen, akin to the size of an iPad Mini. The report highlights Apple’s efforts to overcome technical challenges such as the crease in the folding display and achieving a fully flat lay when opened.
Moreover, Apple is rumored to be exploring options for its first-ever foldable iPhone, which could come in sizes of 7.9-inches and 8.3-inches, aiming for a 2026 production start.
While Apple has made no official announcements or teasers about these developments, the move to foldable technology would align Apple with competitors like Samsung, Motorola, Google, and OPPO, who have already released similar products.
