Apple is set to launch the AirPods 4, boasting a refined design that promises to be the “most comfortable AirPods ever.” The new model enhances audio quality and supports personalized spatial audio, catering to users seeking an improved listening experience.
The AirPods 4 will be available in two versions: a standard model and a higher-end version featuring Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The latter marks the first time noise-cancellation technology is introduced to the regular AirPods line, also including features like Transparency Mode and Adaptive Audio for better environmental awareness. It even offers Conversational Awareness, which automatically lowers the volume when users speak to someone nearby.
The entry-level AirPods 4 is priced at $129, while the ANC model will cost $179. Both will be available starting September 20, with preorders open now.
Apple is adding a force sensor to both models, previously exclusive to the Pro version, allowing users to control playback by squeezing the stem. The AirPods case is now 10 percent smaller, equipped with USB-C charging, while the ANC version adds a speaker for use with Apple’s Find My feature and supports wireless charging, including with Apple Watch chargers.
Additionally, with iOS 18, all AirPods models will gain new Siri interactions, such as the ability to respond to Siri by shaking your head.
This update follows Apple’s release of the third-generation AirPods in 2021, which did not meet strong sales expectations, and last year’s Pro update, which introduced a USB-C case and lossless audio when paired with the Vision Pro headset.
